Overview
Beanary is an espresso dial-in companion app. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Data Stored on Your Device
All your coffee data is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data unless you explicitly share it.
- Bean library (names, roasters, origins)
- Shot logs (dose, yield, time, taste notes)
- Dialed-in recipes
- App preferences
Your data never leaves your device unless you choose to export it or enable optional cloud sync.
Analytics (Automatic)
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used. This helps us improve the app.
What we collect:
- App opens and feature usage
- Which screens are viewed
- App version and device type
What we don't collect:
- Your name, email, or identity
- Your bean or shot data
- Your location
- Any personal information
Anonymous Telemetry (Opt-in)
If you enable "Help Improve Beanary" in Settings, we collect anonymous dial-in patterns to improve our guidance recommendations.
What we collect (only if you opt in):
- Equipment type (grinder model, machine model)
- Bean characteristics (origin, roast level — not names)
- Dial-in patterns (shots to dial in, final recipe)
What we never collect:
- Bean names or roaster names
- Personal notes
- Any identifying information
You can disable this at any time in Settings.
App Tracking
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
Data Storage & Retention
Where your data is stored:
- Local data: On your device only
- Analytics: Processed by PostHog (EU servers)
- Telemetry: Stored in Supabase (EU servers)
How long we keep data:
- Analytics data: 12 months
- Telemetry data: 5 years (used to improve dial-in guidance)
- Local data: Until you delete it
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your data — Use the export feature in Settings
- Delete your data — Use "Clear Data" in Settings
- Opt out of telemetry — Toggle in Settings
- Lodge a complaint — With a data protection supervisory authority in your EU member state

Children's Privacy
Beanary is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
